Traditional knowledge
"Lodge pole pine" is the main species used for the poles of a tipi. Traditional sites for harvest include the Eastern slopes of the Rocky Mountains, and Cypress Hills Interprovincial Park.
Description
Evergreen tree (10–30 m) with pairs of short needles and a straight narrow trunk. Produces small woody cones that often remain attached for several years.
