Readmission, Transfer, Health Care Experience, and Letter of Intent

The Faculty of Health Sciences asks that a Letter of Intent be provided by those reapplying for admission to the nursing program, those applying for admission from another nursing program, or those applying for Special Case admission who have extensive health care experience.

Written by the applicant, the Letter of Intent must be submitted directly to Admissions by the April 1 deadline.

Readmission to the B.N. program: The letter should state why the applicant left the program and explain how the applicant is now ready to return to university studies at this time. The letter should also include a statement on the applicant’s potential for success in university studies, how the applicant’s experiences since leaving the university may have contributed to this potential, the applicant’s goals for the future and why returning to studies at the University will help the applicant to realize these goals.

Transfer from another Nursing program: The letter should state why the applicant has chosen to apply to the University of Lethbridge. The letter should also include a statement on the applicant’s potential for success in university studies and the applicant’s goals for the future.

Health Care Experience: The Faculty of Health Sciences will consider a limited number of exceptionally qualified applicants with previous health care related experience (who also meet the regular B.N. admission requirements) on a case-by-case basis. Applicants who are seeking admission based on this experience should submit the online application as normal and must also submit the following documents by April 1:

  • A letter of intent, describing the nature of previous work experience as it relates to nursing and the reason for pursuing nursing;
  • A letter of reference from an employer; and
  • A resume detailing relevant work, volunteer and life experience.

Note: Number of years, currency, and relevance of work experience will be considered

The documentation should emailed, mailed or faxed to:

Admissions, Registrar's Office
University of Lethbridge
4401 University Drive
Lethbridge, Alberta

Fax: 403-329-5159

Email: admissions@uleth.ca

Note: The Faculty of Health Sciences can only admit transfer applicants and those reapplying for admission if space is available in the program. Additionally, admission is competitive and the Faculty of Health Sciences reserves the right of selection of all students for admission and readmission.
