The University of Lethbridge is committed to providing a safe campus for our community, but there are times when unexpected situations may arise. These situations can happen without warning at any time and quickly evolve into emergencies. Whether natural disaster or man made, emergencies require an effective response focused on ensuring life safety and reducing the severity of the incident. Emergency Management is responsible for providing guidance to all University departments regarding the Mitigation, Preparedness, Response and Recovery phases of emergencies and continue to develop, or assist in the development of emergency plans to meet those challenges.
In addition to Departmental Emergency Response Plans and Emergency Action Plans, Emergency Management is responsible for the continued development of the overarching Integrated Emergency Management Plan (IEMP), which may be activated when the resources required to respond to an emergency, exceed the capability of departments to respond effectively to the emergency. The IEMP is authorized by the President of the University, and sanctioned by the Board of Governors and the Emergency Policy Group.
