Mokosch, Eric

Eric Mokosch, beloved partner of Linda Larson, passed away peacefully on Monday, July 28, 2025, at the age of 85 years.

Eric was born in Germany and immigrated to Edmonton Alberta at the age of 12. Eric overcame many obstacles moving to a new country and went on to dedicate his life to a successful career in education.

He began his career in 1963 with the Edmonton Catholic Separate School System. After teaching for two years, he went to the University of Alberta for graduate studies, graduating with a PhD in 1969. He first came to the University of Lethbridge in 1968 as a Senior Academic Administrator. The Faculty of Education had recently changed its status from a school, and the early years involved developing courses and programs, structures and relationships with school jurisdictions and provincial bodies. Mokosch went on to serve as Dean of the Faculty of Education from 1982 to 1986 and from 1987 to 1994.

Over the course of a long and respected career, he earned the admiration of his students and the esteem of his colleagues, culminating in his service as Dean of Education at the University of Lethbridge for a period of 12 years. He was given the Alberta Teachers’ Association’s highest honour, honorary membership, in 2003, where he was credited with being a “major player in the development of the extended practicum.”

Eric had a sharp wit, a signature laugh, and a unique sense of humor that left an impression wherever he went. He loved golf and spent countless summer days on the course with his friends, where his voice – often carrying across several holes – could be heard lamenting a bad shot with his famous, “What was that?!”

He will be remembered for his warmth, intellect, and unfailing generosity of spirit. His passing leaves a deep void in the hearts of his family and friends, but he will remain with us – securely and fondly – in our memories, our stories, and the joy he brought to so many lives.
