Condolence Notice — Dr. Eric Mokosch

The University of Lethbridge extends its sincere condolences to the family, friends and former students and colleagues of Dr. Eric Mokosch, who passed away at the age of 85.

Born and raised in Edmonton, Mokosch devoted his life to education. He began his career in 1963 with the Edmonton Catholic Separate School System. After teaching for two years, he went to the University of Alberta for graduate studies, graduating with a PhD in 1969. He first came to the University of Lethbridge in 1968 as a Senior Academic Administrator. The Faculty of Education had recently changed its status from a school, and the early years involved developing courses and programs, structures and relationships with school jurisdictions and provincial bodies. Mokosch went on to serve as Dean of the Faculty of Education from 1982 to 1986 and from 1987 to 1994.

He was given the Alberta Teachers’ Association’s highest honour, honorary membership, in 2003, where he was credited with being a “major player in the development of the extended practicum.”

A memorial mass will be held at 10 a.m. on Thursday, Aug. 7, at Our Lady of the Assumption Catholic Church, located at 2405 – 12 Ave. S. The University of Lethbridge will lower its flag that day in honour of Mokosch.
