Schaffer, Frank
The University of Lethbridge expresses its sincere condolences to the family and friends of Dr. Frank Schaffer, who passed away on Monday, January 25, 2016 at the age of 80 after a long battle with prostate cancer.
Schaffer was a longtime member of the Department of Mathematics & Computer Science. He began his employment with the University on July 1, 1969 as an assistant professor in mathematics. He was promoted to associate professor on July 1, 1974 and served the U of L until his retirement on June 30, 1993.
Frank is survived by his loving wife Judith, their children Gregory (Sally), Douglas (Lisa), and Susan (Denis) Letourneau, as well as five grandchildren, Laurel, Claire, Neil, Cole and Ella. He was predeceased by his parents, Mathias and Elizabeth, his sister Katherine (Charles) Lacy and his brothers Mathias, John and Joseph.
Frank much enjoyed XC skiing, hiking, gardening and even (in moderation) snow shoveling (and sometimes there was enough of that that Judy also enjoyed it with him)! Frank has chosen cremation and it is his wish that there be no funeral service.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the University of Lethbridge Scholarship Fund (4401 University Drive W, Lethbridge, AB, T1K 6T5), Canadian Cancer Society (317 – 10 Street South, Lethbridge, AB, T1J 2M7), Stars Air Ambulance (1441 Aviation Park N.E., Calgary, AB, T2E 8M7), Chinook Regional Hospital (960 – 19 Street S, Lethbridge, AB, T1J 1W5), and the Jack Ady Cancer Centre (960 – 19 Street S, Lethbridge, AB, T1J 1W5). Frank would want everyone to know that he found his treatment at the Chinook Regional Hospital and the Jack Ady Cancer Centre to be outstanding
