Noise In Residence

Residence is a place where you meet friends and socialize, but please be respectful of others and understand that excessive noise can disrupt your fellow floormates. All residence buildings have quiet hours to ensure you can sleep and study well. Speakers, TVs, video games, musical instruments, and conversations should never be audible beyond your room, even when quiet hours are not in effect.

Quiet hours are in effect 11 pm- 8:30 am Sunday to Thursday nights and 12 am -8:30 am Friday to Saturday nights. During exam periods, quiet hours are 22/7 (22 hours 7 days a week).

Excessive noise will never be tolerated at any time and will result in disciplinary sanctions, including the removal of your stereo system or speakers. You may be asked to withdraw from residence early during the exam periods if your behaviour is distracting to other residents or if you violate your Residence Contract. You should always use headphones to avoid bothering others. You're obligated to respect quiet hours and Residence Staff have the right to tell you to turn off speakers or stereos, or have you remove them from your room in the moment.

If you find that others on your floor are being disruptive to your studying or sleep during quiet hours, try and approach them respectfully and explain how the noise volume is impacting you.

It's your responsibility to limit unreasonable noise at any time and to actively request that others do the same. You have the right to ask anyone to be quieter if they are being excessively loud and you have the obligation to be quiet if asked by another resident.

The University is located on traditional Blackfoot Confederacy territory. We honour the Blackfoot people and their traditional ways of knowing in caring for this land, as well as all Aboriginal peoples who have helped shape and continue to strengthen our University community.
