Gender Inclusive Housing Options

Gender-Inclusive Housing Options

Mixed-Gender & Gender-Inclusive Housing

Mixed-gender housing is an option for any continuing student (second year or more) who wants to live with a friend of a different gender. This option is intended for people who want to live with a person of a different gender such as a sibling.

Mixed-gender housing is only available in the following buildings: Mt. Blakison, Siksika and Tsuu ‘T’ina townhomes, and the village.

As part of the MGH, students do not have to complete a commitment statement but they do need mutually requested roommates who both want MGH.

Gender-inclusive housing is intended to provide a welcoming environment for residents across the spectrum of gender identity, gender expression, biological sex, sexual identity, and allied members of the community.

Our placement process is based on roommate compatibility and interest. This means that all room types in all our buildings are available to students even if they apply for gender-inclusive housing. This allows for students to pick a room type, or rate that works best for their budget.

We do not have a limit on the number of students who sign up for gender-inclusive housing (GIH). It is solely based on room preference, roommate compatibility, and some students enrolled in GIH. As student applications come in, we do our very best to place you in the right room with others looking for gender-inclusive housing. Due to our reliance on students opting into the GIH, we may not be able to place every student in a GIH option. In these instances, we will contact the student to talk about options one-on-one to find the best alternative.

It is important to note that you do not have to have a mutual request to participate in GIH.

As part of the GIH, students must sign a commitment statement in order to be considered. Should a student have any questions about the commitment statement, please contact residencelife@uleth.ca.

How to apply?

In your housing application, you will select that you are interested in GIH. The application will have a link to complete the commitment statement form. Please note, that both you and your roommate (if mutually requested) must complete the commitment statement to be assigned to a gender inclusive room together.
