Inside the Department of Psychology
What is psychology?
Psychology explores the complexities of the human mind along with human emotions, thoughts, and behaviours. At its core, psychology investigates the evolutionary, social, cultural, and biological mechanisms behind how humans and animals navigate our world. From hormones to language, psychology offers insight into what makes us uniquely human.
Psychologists study many interactions related to humans and living beings, whether those are the networks in the body or the relationships between humans. Along with that, psychologists study the external factors that affect these relationships and try to understand the outcomes of such exchanges.
Why major in psychology?
A major in psychology will help you develop skills in analyzing and interpreting complex material, particularly as it relates to behaviour. You will learn theories of how people interpret the world and act in it, as well as theories of human behaviour. As a psychology student, you will learn from those at the forefront of psychological research. Our faculty members are regularly published in the top journals and make an ongoing contribution to an ever-advancing field.
Get involved in undergraduate research
Psychology faculty explore a wide range of research topics and welcome undergraduate students to take part. You might assist in a lab, collaborate with graduate students, or contribute to real-world projects. It’s a valuable way to gain hands-on experience and see psychology in action.
Where are we located?
We are located in the University of Lethbridge, in Lethbridge, Alberta, Canada. Our faculty members' offices and Departmental office are located on the 8th floor of the Science Commons. The department has full computer-based audio and video analysis equipment, computer based cognitive and experimental psychology laboratories, and social psychology labs.
Our faculty also maintains several fieldsites for human and animal field research both locally in southern Alberta and in foreign countries (e.g. South Africa, Japan, Independent Samoa).
