Dr. Shannon Spenceley (BN '84) is a passionate Registered Nurse with deep Alberta roots. She is a graduate of Foothills Hospital in Calgary, and the Universities of Lethbridge, Calgary and Alberta.

From 2002 to 2005, she served as an elected Provincial Councilor for the professional association/regulatory body for Alberta Nursing (CARNA). She was then elected as President of CARNA from 2013-2016. Prior to coming to uLethbridge, she was a senior leader in the former Chinook Health region and then AHS in Southern Alberta.

She is currently the Interim Dean of the Faculty of Health Sciences at the University of Lethbridge, where her leadership as an educator and a researcher informs the future of her field. Her research is focused on the nature, prevalence and potential of reducing moral distress in nursing caregivers in long-term care settings, as well as on innovative models of community-based primary health care for vulnerable populations.
