Community Events & Activities

Connecting campus and community

Sharing the research, expertise, and passion of the Faculty of Arts & Science with the broader community through talks, activities, and outreach programs

Community outreach is a priority for the Faculty of Arts & Science at the University of Lethbridge. Dissemination of our faculty research expertise to a wider community through programs and activities such as talks, news columns, lab visits, youth and family activities, and in-school presentations have been delivered with great success over the years.

Faculty of Arts & Science series and events

Join us for the 2025 CCDS Annual Meeting at Iniskim, University of Lethbridge, located on the traditional territory of the Blackfoot Confederacy. This year's meeting will bring together experts to explore the future of science, education, and policy, with discussions on science funding, innovation in education, and environmental sustainability. We’ll also delve into the impact of AI, data science, and technology on the future of research.

In recognition of Dr. Holmes’ record as both scientist, administrator, and academic concerned with public policy, the lectures are to be given on topics of public significance concerned with the sciences and with the nature and goals of the university in contemporary times.

The lecture is to be delivered by distinguished scholars of national or international reputation.

In June 2014, the Faculty of Arts & Science launched something special: the PUBlic Professor Series. In 2023, we expanded the series to include talks by researchers from across the University. This monthly lecture series is designed to spark thought-provoking discussions and bring a diverse group of experts and researchers from our campus right into the community.

While the series' scope has grown, its core mission remains unchanged. These talks will continue to offer valuable insights into topics that pique interest, inspire questions, and foster open and engaging conversations. The PUBlic Professor Series provides an excellent opportunity for the community to come together, connect with one another, and dive into meaningful discussions.

Department talks, lectures and events

The F.E.L. Priestley Lecture was endowed in 1987, in memory of Professor Priestley, whose fifty-year academic career began as a teacher in a one-room school in Pine Coulee, and ended when he retired from University College, University of Toronto, in 1972.

The purpose of the lecture series is to invite internationally renowned scholars and authors to campus to further the tradition of the humane letters, in particular in the disciplines of the history of ideas, literature, philosophy, and history.

It provides an opportunity to advance the humanist tradition and intellectual values that Professor Priestley cherished and promoted in his works and in the classroom. The series is guided by a written Terms of Reference.

The Brenda Milner Lecture Series (BMLS) is an annual event in honour of Brenda Milner, one of Canada's most eminent neuroscientists. Each year, the Neuroscience graduate student body selects an influential senior member within the international academic neuroscience community and invites him or her to Lethbridge to impart their knowledge and wisdom through a public lecture and various other events hosted in their honour.

Inaugurated in 2016, the Driedger Lecture is delivered annually by a distinguished historian on an important historical topic. This series, along with student scholarships, is sponsored by the Driedger Fund, which was established by the children of Dr. Gerhard and Hilda Driedger to honour their parents' lifelong love of history.
