Program description
Prepare for a career as a Canadian Certified Counsellor or Registered Psychologist in Alberta
In the MEd(Counselling Psychology), you'll complete coursework, a practicum and Culminating Activity (thesis, project or Capstone) to:
- understand and acquire communication skills in interpersonal and counselling contexts
- learn historical and theoretical foundations in counselling psychology
- develop a planning and implementation framework for client change interventions in counselling psychology
- become familiar with a variety of counselling assessment procedures
- understand the process of career counselling
- address professional and ethical issues in counselling psychology practice, science and regulation
- develop an understanding of gender and cultural issues in counselling
- experience supervised practice in counselling psychology settings
You do not require a teaching background for admission to this program.
Year One: attend full-time, on-campus
Year Two: complete practicum placements and culminating activity remotely, if desired, with limited on-campus attendance
