Textbook Rental FAQs

Innovative solutions make textbooks more affordable for you. That’s why the University of Lethbridge Bookstore is now offering textbook rentals.

Q: How does the rental program work?

A: It’s easy. Come into the store and select your textbooks for the term. Rental prices will appear on the shelf tags if a rental is available. When purchasing your books, the cashier will tell you which books are available for rent and the pricing, giving you the option to either purchase or rent the book. If you select the rental option, you will be asked for some personal contact information and to sign a rental contract. At the end of the term, you return the book to the bookstore during finals week.

Q: Why should I rent from the bookstore versus going online?

A: The bookstore offers many advantages to you versus renting your textbook online including: • You receive competitive pricing. • You are assured the correct book based on the order received directly from the instructor. • You do not have to wait for the book to be shipped to you. • You do not have to pay shipping to receive or return the book. • You will receive top-notch customer service.

Q: What if I don’t return the book?

A: If the book is not returned a replacement cost, in the amount of the new retail price, will be charged to your student account.

Q: What if I decide I want to keep the book and use it for future reference?

A: You may refund a rental according to the same refund policy as a regular textbook purchase. If you decide that you would like to purchase the book, refund the rental and purchase a textbook. If you decide to purchase the book after the textbook return deadline, you will have to purchase the book for the full price in order to keep it.

Q: Why are not all books available for rental in the store?

A: In order for a rental program to be successful, the textbook needs to be used for multiple terms. We have selected the textbooks which we are assured will be reused next term either on our campus or elsewhere in the country. The savings will vary according to demand, as well.

Q: Is renting the textbook a better deal than purchasing it?

A: We offer you the option of purchasing the textbook new or used or renting it. It is up to you to decide which option best meets your educational needs.

Q: Where do I return the book at the end of the term?

A: To the bookstore.

Q: What if I drop the class or don’t need the book once the course begins?

A: Our textbook rental program follows the same return policy as purchasing the textbook

The University is located on traditional Blackfoot Confederacy territory. We honour the Blackfoot people and their traditional ways of knowing in caring for this land, as well as all Aboriginal peoples who have helped shape and continue to strengthen our University community.
