Description: Eleven legends from across the Arctic. Like many mythologies, these stories sought to explain the origin and special attributes of species that were of particular importance to the Inuit people.

Description: This site explores the storytelling traditions of six First Nations communities -- Algonquin, Mi'kmaq, Metis-Cree, Abenaki, Inuvialuit, and Nisga'a. Learn how the skillful art of storytelling is passed down from one generation to another by chosen, recognized or hereditary storytellers.

Using First Nations Literature in the Classroom

Description: Published by the Saskatoon Public School District, this site can be used to explore oral traditions, folklore, and storytelling in first nations literature. Also included are suggestions for final projects and a list of suggested literature. The site is aimed at earlier grades, however, the children's literature suggested can still be useful in a high school classroom. Plus, the structure of this unit can be used to explore any culture's literary roots.
