WELCOME TO
THE FACULTY
OF EDUCATION

Congratulations on your admission Bachelor of Education – Early Years students!

We are thrilled to welcome you to the Faculty of Education this fall at the University of Lethbridge. Our team is here to support you throughout your journey in the program.

Getting Started

Below are some important details to help you prepare over the upcoming months and become familiar with services at ULethbridge.

Registration

Registration begins in mid-March and continues throughout the summer to allow flexibility for new students.

If you are new to the University, you must complete the Sexual Violence Prevention Training before registering. If this training is not completed, the system will prevent you from registering. It takes approximately four hours for the system to update.

HOW TO REGISTER:

Visit the Student Enrolment & Registrar Services website for step-by-step instructions.

If a course is full, visit the waitlist page for details on how to submit a request. Most first- and second-year courses are offered through the Faculty of Arts & Science. Refer to their form to submit a request.

Planning your courses

  • Follow the Program Planning Guide (PPG) for the Bachelor of Education – Early Years Program for your year of entry.

  • Read the guide carefully so you understand important program information.

  • Page 4 provides a sample course sequence.

  • Use the guide to track completed courses and ensure you meet program requirements.

  • 3 courses (9 credits) is considered full-time status if you are receiving student loans.

Transferring your credits

If you have previous post-secondary courses, you'll receive a personalized Program Planning Guide (PPG) from the Faculty of Education Academic Advisor within the next few weeks.

This guide will show:

  • Transfer courses applicable to your program

  • How to sequence your remaining courses

Initially you may register for courses you’re certain you need, then adjust as needed once you receive your personalized PPG.

Not all transfer courses may apply to program requirements. Residency requirements must also be met.

See the Faculty of Education section of the Academic Calendar for details.

Course Planning Tips

✔ Prioritize core courses (#1–10, 20, 21) in Years 1 and 2 to avoid scheduling conflicts with Professional Semesters later.

✔ You MUST register in EDUC 1000 in Fall 2026

This is the only required course for Fall, unless you have already completed it at ULethbridge.

✔ Use the “Plan Ahead” feature in the timetable to organize courses for both semesters. This helps to avoid time conflicts.

A helpful video explaining how to use Plan Ahead is available online.

It is strongly recommended you take the following courses in Semester 1 or 2:

  • ENGL 1900
  • PSYC 1020

These are prerequisites for:

  • ENGL 2610 (offered only in Fall)
  • PSYC 2110 (offered only in Winter)

Planning ahead ensures you can take required courses in Year 2.

Professional Semesters (PSI, PSII, PSIII) occur in fixed terms as they are listed on page 4 of the guide.

No additional courses can be taken during Professional Semesters.

Early Years Program Handbook

The current handbook is available for you to review as you prepare for the program.

The 2026–2027 handbook will be posted later in August, with similar information.
