Teacher Education Secondments

The University of Lethbridge Faculty of Education invites applications for up to two positions by Secondment from practicing teachers (K-12) in school jurisdictions in Zone 6. Applications in the areas of Assessment/Evaluation, Language Arts, and/or Science are of particular interest, however, applications are encouraged from all practicing teachers with an interest in general courses within the Teacher Education Program. Within the 10- month contract, the position entails teaching and practicum supervision in the undergraduate Teacher Education Program, as well as involvement in a range of faculty initiatives. Applicants with expertise in any of our other core teaching areas will also be considered.

General qualifications include:

  • A Bachelor of Education degree and Professional Teaching Certificate; a Master of Education degree is preferred
  • A minimum of four years of successful teaching experience and currently a practicing educator
  • Recent involvement in the University field experience program as a teacher associate or teacher mentor
  • Strong interpersonal skills to work effectively with colleagues and student teachers

In your letter of application, please specify the curricular areas and grade levels in which you have the greatest competence or specialization. We also encourage you to describe any unique educational experiences (e.g., working in First Nations schools and communities; First Nations, Metis and Inuit curriculum integration; alternative education programs; special education; technology integration; evaluation of student learning, etc.) that may be of value to the program.

Important Note: In order to be eligible, applicants must obtain and present evidence when applying that the superintendent of the school division in which they are employed agrees to the condition that the Faculty of Education will reimburse the school jurisdiction for the cost of replacing the successful applicant to an approximate maximum of $75,000 (including benefits).

Period of Appointment: August 20, 2018 to June 30, 2019
