Registration

Who registers me for my classes?

You do! You must register for your classes on the Bridge.

What happens if I can’t get a class that I want?

If the course is required in your major, see an academic advisor during the wait-list period to be added to the wait-list for your required course (see our wait-listing information page for more information). If the course is not required in your major, register in another class for now and don’t panic! Course registrations are constantly changing during the registration and add/drop periods, so if you are persistent, there is a good chance that you will get the course(s) that you want. The course instructor cannot help you get into the class.

I want to take two classes, but they overlap by just 10 minutes. Can I register in both?

No, you cannot register for a class that is offered at the same time or overlaps with a course in which you are already registered, even if it is by just 10 minutes.

Can I take 6 classes in a semester?

Although we do not normally recommend taking 6 classes in a semester, you can choose to take 6 courses if you are in good academic standing. You must to wait until the first day of classes to register in the 6th class. If you are considering taking 6 classes, it is a good idea to talk to an academic advisor to make a plan to get the 6 classes that you need.

I was dropped from my courses! What happened?

If add/drop has not ended, one of two things probably happened. Either you had a duplicate registration or you did not have the prerequisite(s) for the course. Duplicate registration is when you are registered in two components (e.g. labs) of the same course. Double check your registration on the Bridge to make sure that everything is correct. If you think you have the prerequisite, but were still dropped from the course, you should talk to an academic advisor. If you were dropped after the start of classes, you probably forgot to make a payment towards your tuition for that semester and should contact the Cash Office.

How many classes do I need to take to be full-time?

To be a full-time student in a Fall or Spring semester, you need to take at least 3 courses (9.0 credit hours) for student loans, most health benefits, tax credits, etc. International students, student athletes, and students with other funding sources may have different requirements. If you are unsure how many courses you need to take to meet other requirements, you should check with the appropriate office (International Centre, Pronghorns Athletics, your bank, etc.).

A normal full-time course load is five classes (15.0 credit hours) per semester. This is the course load that is typically required to complete your program in the specified period of time (e.g. 4 year degree).

Many students choose to take fewer than five courses per semester due to other commitments, such as athletics, employment, or family responsibilities. If you are unsure of how many courses would be best for you, we encourage you to speak to an academic advisor.

What if I want to take a course for which I do not have the perequisite?

In unique circumstances, students lacking the prerequisite(s) and/or corequisite(s) for a course may apply for a prerequisite waiver. You must contact the instructor of the course to discuss your situation and request the waiver. Approved prerequisite waivers for Arts & Science courses must be submitted to SU060 before you register in the course.

When do I register for my courses?

Each student is assigned an initial registration period each semester. You can check on the Bridge for your specific registration dates. After the initial registration period, registration continues for all students until the end of add/drop at the beginning of the semester (see Important Dates & Deadlines for the exact dates).
