The Certificate in Arts & Science is composed of ten required courses designed to provide a good mix of breadth and depth of knowledge in a specific area of study.
Upon completion of this certificate, you will be able to demonstrate an understanding of the subject areas covered within your stream, as well as the connections that exist among them.
This university-level certificate program in as little as one year of full-time study, or work at your own pace and take as long as you need. There is no time limit for completion.
All participants who meet the requirements of their chosen Certificate Stream will be eligible to receive a certificate that recognizes this achievement.
Moreover, completing this certificate is a ladder to a ULethbridge degree. By successfully completing the Certificate in Arts & Science you may be eligible for transfer into the second year of a related ULethbridge degree.
The Certificate of Arts & Science provides an alternate admissions route that increases access to ULethbridge degree programs as it has lower admission requirements than direct entry. If you do not currently meet direct entry degree requirements at ULethbridge, this certificate is for you.
To be eligible for admission to the Certificate in Arts and Science, students must present a passing grade in English Language Arts 30-1, or an equivalent course. Applicants may also qualify for admission to the Certificate in Arts and Science through the Post-Secondary Admission Route.
Certificate Requirements
- Completion of at least 10 courses (30.0 credit hours) with a GPA of at least 2.00
- Completion of a modified Liberal Education Requirement: 2 courses (6.0 credit hours) in Fine Arts and Humanities, 2 courses (6.0 credit hours) in Social Science, 2 courses (6.0 credit hours) in Sciences
- All courses must be selected from courses offered by the Faculty of Arts and Science, Faculty of Fine Arts, or School of Liberal Education
- Only four courses (12.0 credit hours) in total may be counted from any one discipline toward the Lib Ed Requirement. Disciplines are identified by separate course subject codes.
- Residence requirement: A minimum of 7 courses (21.0 credit hours) must be completed at the University of Lethbridge.
