Government Relations
The University of Lethbridge works with elected and non-elected government officials at the municipal, provincial and federal levels to advance the University’s priorities and contribute to public policy and initiatives that support students, our institution and the communities the U of L serves.
The Government Relations Office leads and coordinates the University’s relationships with governments. It provides strategic advice to the President, senior leadership and campus partners; monitor government priorities, policies and emerging issues; and develop opportunities to engage decision-makers on matters important to the University and the broader post-secondary sector.
Work includes:
- Building and maintaining relationships with elected officials, political staff, public servants and government agencies.
- Advancing the University’s institutional, capital, research, enrolment and other strategic priorities with government.
- Monitoring and interpreting government policy, legislation, programs and funding opportunities.
- Supporting University leaders and campus partners in their engagement with government.
- Coordinating government meetings, briefings, submissions, announcements, tours and other engagements.
- Connecting government representatives with the University’s expertise, research, students and community impact.
Supporting government engagement in a coordinated, non-partisan and accountable manner.
Engaging with government
Government Relations is a resource for University departments that are considering engaging with elected officials, government departments or agencies.
If you are planning a meeting with a government representative, seeking government support for a University initiative, responding to a government request, or inviting a government representative to campus, please contact the Government Relations Office early in the process. We can help identify an appropriate approach, coordinate participation, and ensure engagement is consistent with applicable legislation, policies and legislative requirements.
