Revision History
April 7, 2026: The Death in Service protocol for employees has undergone a comprehensive revision, incorporating editorial updates to ensure the University's response to employee Death-in-Service (DIS) is systematic, coordinated, and trauma-informed.
Key changes include:
- Updates and clarifications to DIS Response Groups to ensure relevant operational units are promptly notified of a death-in-service, supporting an institutional response. Under the revised protocol, the designated Senior HR Consultant will initiate the process by sending an email to the DIS Response Group, replacing the previous practice of convening a large working group meeting with all involved parties.
- The use of titles rather than individual names has been implemented throughout.
- Addition of communication tasks related to death-in-service events and clarification of the responsible areas for these actions.
- Inclusion of comprehensive Death-in-Service procedures, including offboarding processes, listed in relative chronological order and organized by the responsible areas/leader.
- Guidance on adopting a trauma-informed approach in the aftermath of a death in service.
- Practical guidelines for Campus Leaders (Managers and Senior Leaders).
