Graduate Program Descriptions

M.Ed. (General)

The Master of Education (General) program is intended for practicing educators. Most of our students are teachers or administrators in the public or separate school systems, but our program is also relevant to those with teaching experience in other educational environments. Private school educators, health educators, counsellors, and business or corporate trainers will all find our program flexible enough to meet their particular needs.

The Faculty of Education, University of Lethbridge is now giving consideration to offering two new Special Focus M.Ed. programs in (a). Information Technology in Education (b). Literacy in Education.

M.Ed. (Counselling Psychology)

The purpose of the M.Ed. (Counselling Psychology) program is to provide training for people who want to develop professional skills and certification in counselling psychology. The emphasis of the program is on the provision of counsellor training for those people who aspire to work within educational, community or private practice settings. There are two program routes: Professional Counsellor andRegisteredPsychologist. Upon completion of the Professional Counsellor route, graduates may be eligible for certification as a Professional Counsellor under the guidelines of the Canadian Counselling Association (CCA). CCA certification attests to the level of professional counselling competence, and is considered the minimum professional standard in Canada. The next intake will beJuly 2011. This is a full-time on-campus program. Contact the Office of Graduate Studies and Research inEducationfor details.

M.Ed. (Educational Leadership)

The M.Ed. (Educational Leadership) program reflects recent shifts in the knowledge base and in the restructuring of educational leadership programs worldwide. The program also reflects the Faculty of Education's commitment to prepare leaders for Alberta schools and school jurisdictions. This is a leadership preparation program, consistent with acknowledged professional standards to meet anticipated demands for competent and committed school leaders. The following information applies specifically to the M.Ed. (Educational Leadership) 2006 cohort group. The next M.Ed. (Educational Leadership) intake will be July 2010. Contact the Office of Graduate Studies and Research for application details.

M.C. (Master of Counselling)

The Master of Counselling program provides distance education alternatives for individuals wishing to prepare for a career as a professional counsellor or registered psychologist.
