The School of Graduate Studies supports graduate students, supervisors, and academic programs throughout the graduate student journey, from admission and funding to program completion and convocation. We are committed to fostering academic excellence, research innovation, and an enriching graduate student experience for master's and doctoral students at the University of Lethbridge.

School of Graduate Studies' Guiding Principles

We will work to ensure that our initiatives and activities meet the following principles:  

• Alignment with the institutional strategic plan.  
• Have an empowered owner and team.  
• Are evidence-based and informed by data.  
• Involve the group they are intended to benefit (don’t do something for me without me!)
• Regularly assess sustainability and impact. 
  • Don’t get in a rut. 
  • Don’t do things because we’ve always done it. 
  • Don’t not do things because we’ve never done it.
  • Ensure that activities have a cyclic review (termly, annually, etc.)
• Include both proactive and responsive approaches to student and faculty support.
• Contribute intentionally and meaningfully to eliminating opportunity gaps in participation, retention, completion.
