Faculty/Staff Guidelines

Faculty

As you start class, please remind students that those who are ill with fever, cough, sore throat etc should NOT be attending class

  • They should stay home and get well
  • This ensures that they do not infect others
  • Urge them to contact us if they need assistance

You will be receiving an automatic email from the H1N1 Illness Registry notifying you of student sign-ins. Each faculty also has an H1N1 liaison representative. You may wish to consult with this person when addressing student concerns about related absenteeism.

Reporting Your Own Illness

1. Staff members who are ill with flu-like symptoms are required to advise their supervisor, who in turn should notify their respective manager.

2. If the staff member has been directed to get tested due to severe respiratory distress, they are to remain off work until their health care provider advises them to return to work. Results may take up to a week.

3. Unlike other situations involving illness, a medical certificate to support an absence will not be required where a staff member has experienced flu-like symptoms or has been directed to self-isolate.

4. Time off within the above parameters is considered to be illness leave. In the event the staff member is not eligible for paid illness leave, or does not have any paid illness leave available, the time off work will be treated as leave with pay.
