Canadian Blood Services Graduate Fellowship Program

The Canadian Blood Services Fellowship Program provides stipends and flexible research funds, on a competitive basis, to highly qualified trainees to initiate or continue graduate training in Canada in the field of blood transfusion and transplantation science. The program supports the advancement of the science of transfusion, blood‑related stem cell transplantation, and cellular therapies with the goal of promoting new discoveries that support the Canadian blood system and the patients whom it serves. The program also seeks to increase the system's capacity through the development of a robust and sustainable community of experts.

Value

• The maximum value of the award is $80,000 in total for the award’s duration. 
• $35,000 per year as a mandatory minimum stipend/salary. 
• $10,000 total research allowance. 

Eligibility

• Applicants must not hold another competitive stipend award at the same time as the Canadian Blood Services Graduate Fellowship
• Applicants must be engaged in full-time training in research in a graduate program at a Canadian university leading to a PhD or combined health professional PhD program
• Applications from trainees enrolled in a Master’s program may be considered, if, at their institution, it is not possible to register directly in the Ph.D. stream, and they intend to transfer to the Ph.D. program.
• Fellowship is open to Canadian and international students
• Applicants must be enrolled in a training program that includes actual involvement in research and not only courses in research methods

CBS has active research programs within transfusion science and applications will be evaluated for relevance to the current priorities:

• Donors and donation
• Infectious disease surveillance and mitigation
• Immunology
• Bleeding and blood disorders
• Transplantation and cellular therapy

All applications submitted must fall within these research priorities. If you are uncertain whether your research idea fits within these priorities, please contact the Associate Director, Research, prior to submitting your application.
