Research expertise
My research interests are situated in both the fields of literacy education and educational measurement/assessment. In the field of literacy my research explores both how writing ability develops across the lifespan, and the application of those understandings to the design of writing programs, instruction, and assessments that enable students to flourish as writers in their lives beyond the classroom. In the field of educational measurement and assessment my research focuses on understanding social consequences—fairness, justice, anti-racism, and ethics--that result from the implementation and use of assessment programs.
