Hello Summer II/III learners!

I hope you are all well today and enjoying your Wednesday!

Great news: The U of L Calgary Campus will be officially moving students and instructors back to Bow Valley College for July 22, 2013! Please begin attending classes at BVC beginning Monday, July 22, 2013 and onwards.

For your convenience, here is a breakdown of BVC classrooms for Summer Session II/III. This information should also be on your course outlines. Please note that MUSI 2500 will be remaining at the University of Calgary and AHMS 3255 has been moved to a larger classroom at BVC.

By the end of business on July 19, 2013, the University of Lethbridge Calgary Campus will have fully vacated their temporary administrative space on the 2nd floor of the MacKimmie Library Link. Administrative services will resume exclusively in our Bow Valley College space on the 6th floor.

We look forward to seeing you all next week! Thank you for your patience and understanding during this incredibly difficult time. All the best in your studies!

July 12, 2013

Happy Friday Summer Session II/III students!

We have good news for you: we're headed back to Bow Valley College soon, soon, soon!

If all the stars align, we hope to transition all classes (with the possible exception of MUSI 2500) back to Bow Valley College South Campus beginning July 22nd, 2013. This is a tentative date, so please continue to watch your uleth.ca email accounts for details from senior administration and from your instructors. Classroom numbers will be communicated in a later post. Please continue to go to the University of Calgary for classes until further notice.

Beginning Monday, July 15, the U of L Calgary Campus administrative staff will be transitioning back to BVC campus. Our regular telephone numbers are already operational, so you can reach us using our U of L telephone numbers starting next Monday. We will also be operating our normal 10:00am-6:00pm Monday through Thursday, and 10:00am-5:00pm on Fridays. Drop in advising hours are 2:30pm to 5:00pm. There will be a small U of L administrative presence in our temporary location at the University of Calgary on the 2nd floor of the MacKimmie Library Link the week of July 15-19, 2013 between 4:30pm-6:00pm Monday through Thursday, and 4:00-5:00pm on Friday.

Please be aware that when all parts of our learning community return to Bow Valley College that there will not be any parking available at Bow Valley College South Campus. The South Campus parkade suffered extreme floodwater damage and will not be operational for approximately 6 months. Please visit the following page to find the next closest parking lots available: http://www.uleth.ca/sites/default/files/Parking%20Nearby.pdf. It appears that there are many displaced parkers in the downtown core, so it is recommended that you scout out your alternative parking spot a little earlier than normal for the first few days.

Thank you for your patience and understanding during this difficult time. If you have any questions about the transition back to Bow Valley College, please contact us at 403.571.3360 or calgary.campus@uleth.ca for assistance.

Have a wonderful weekend!

3) obtain and print card to use the library printers.

Please remember that if you would like to borrow books or other materials from the TFDL library, you will need to bring your TAL card (The Alberta Library card) and your U of L student ID card to the main floor library service desk to register.

Happy Friday Summer Session II/III students!

Sunny and warm conditions are forecast right through the week - just what we need to dry out our city and lift our spirits! Hoping everyone gets a chance to enjoy a few minutes of sunshine in the midst of clean-up efforts. We have been wondering about all of our students and hoping that you are surviving. Our thoughts are with you!

I know this update has been long awaited, so I’ll get right into the meat and potatoes:

The University of Lethbridge Calgary Campus has found temporary instructional space to proceed with Summer Session II/III classes! The semester will continue, as planned next week, but with a location change. The senior leadership team had reached out to the other post-secondary institutions in the City of Calgary to find suitable and adequate instructional space that would accommodate the approximately 350 individuals in our learning community for Summer Session II/III. We are happy to report that the University of Calgary has agreed to host the U of L Calgary Campus until we may return to our home in Bow Valley College. Presently, our estimated return to BVC date is still a moving target, but we promise to share information as quickly as possible as we continue to obtain more information in the coming days. The University of Calgary’s address is: 2500 University Drive NW, Calgary, AB T2N 1N4.

On Tuesday, July 2, 2013 our administrative team will begin setting up a temporary office space at the University of Calgary that will be accessible to students and instructors. Our temporary space will be located on the 2nd floor of the MacKimmie Link, behind the escalators and staircase. In this space, we will be able to support you with very basic functions beginning Wednesday afternoon, July 3, 2013 – the start date for Summer Session II/III. Also, we will be communicating a wealth of information on Tuesday about where you should park and how to navigate through campus to our temporary work space from the C-Train station or parkade. We will also provide you with instructions on how to get onto the U of C’s WiFi. Our communication on Tuesday afternoon will be very targeted to many of the questions you will undoubtedly have moving forward with operating from a much larger campus environment. Stay Tuned!

Hello students and community,

I hope today brings more relief as the recovery process unfolds! The U of L Calgary Campus team continues to keep those of you affected by the floods in our thoughts. Best wishes to you all.

Many students have been asking some great questions lately, so I wanted to take this opportunity to clarify a few things with respect to the messaging you received recently from our senior leadership.

  • The University of Lethbridge Calgary Campus continues to remain closed until further notice.
  • Students are strongly encouraged to make their decisions about withdrawing from their Summer Session I course(s) by the end of business this Friday. If you wish to withdraw from your Summer Session I course(s), please do so virtually by contacting the Registrar’s Office directly at 1.403.320.5700. The course withdrawal in Summer Session I will not appear on your official transcript and no “W” grade will be assigned.
  • Students will be permitted to repeat their Summer Session I courses, free of tuition, during the next possible offering of the course within the next 12 months. The repeated class can be taken at any one of University of Lethbridge’s three campuses: Calgary, Edmonton or Lethbridge.
  • All final examinations on the Calgary Campus have been cancelled.
  • Your instructors are working hard to finalize your final grades based on the coursework/performance you have completed to date. Final grades will be posted onto your Bridge accounts likely by the end of next week.
  • Senior administration is working diligently to find acceptable instructional space for our Summer Session II/III semester. It is our hope to resume activities on the BVC campus as soon as possible, but not before ensuring the building is completely safe for occupation. More information will be communicated about Summer Session II/III and classroom space as it becomes available. Stay tuned!
  • The Calgary Campus administrative team has not been able to gain access to the administrative space since evacuation. If you require immediate assistance, please contact one of the many numbers on our automatic out-of-office replies that is most applicable to your inquiry.

Bow Valley College and University of Lethbridge campus space remains inaccessible. Students should NOT attempt to visit the campus as it is still experiencing flood conditions and clean-up/reclamation efforts are ongoing.

U of L administration is currently considering options for Summer Session II classes.

June 24, 2013

U of L Calgary Campus Summer Session I is now complete.

In consideration of the recent and severe flooding of downtown Calgary, and because the University of Lethbridge’s Calgary Campus remains inaccessible, Summer Session I courses at the Calgary Campus are now complete.

Instructors will evaluate completed course work and will subsequently assign a final course grade. Final exams for Summer Session I have been cancelled.

Students who would like the opportunity to retake the course will be able to do so at no cost to them. Those wishing to withdraw from the course will be able to, without the withdrawal appearing on their official transcript. Final grade submission for Summer Session I will remain July 3, 2013.

We are currently working with other Calgary post-secondary institutions in an effort to offer courses during the Summer Session II and III semesters. Further information regarding these arrangements will be posted shortly.

The U of L’s Calgary Campus remains closed until further notice. U of L officials will continue to monitor the situation and will advise on the reopening of the Calgary Campus when details become clear. In the interim, students, staff and faculty are asked not to access the U of L’s Calgary Campus at Bow Valley College.

We apologize for the inconvenience this has caused and appreciate your understanding as we continue to work through the impacts caused by this significant event.

Instructors seeking additional information regarding the completion of Summer Session I should contact Calgary Campus Manager Dana Corbin at dana.corbin@uleth.ca.

Sincerely,

Andrew Hakin
Provost and Vice-President (Academic)

CALGARY CAMPUS CLOSURE UPDATE

After conferring with officials from Bow Valley College, we are able to provide the following update to our faculty, staff, and students who work and study at our Calgary Campus.

For now, the Calgary Campus will remain closed for at least Monday and Tuesday of this week.

As you are aware, the South, North, and West Campuses of Bow Valley College have been flooded. On Friday morning, a total evacuation of the downtown campus was conducted. All computer systems, as well as power, were shut down.

ENMAX entered the South Campus building to keep Bow Valley College officials apprised of the situation. The South Campus had experience flooding - Parking level 3 completely full; P2 half full; P1 had 2-3 inches. Security will continue to assess Bow Valley College's buildings, including South Campus.

The transformer that feeds the building is underwater. There is no possibility of power for several days.

As we learn more information, including timing regarding the resumption of Calgary Campus activities, we will share it with you.
