About i4Geo
The Institute for Geospatial Inquiry, Instruction and Innovation (i4Geo) advances geospatial research, training, and innovation at the University of Lethbridge.
We connect technologies such as remote sensing, GIS, and spatial data science with real-world applications in environmental monitoring, natural hazards, and decision-making.
Our Mission
i4Geo fosters geospatial inquiry, instruction, and innovation by connecting students, researchers, and partners with the tools and expertise needed to solve real-world challenges. We support research excellence, experiential learning, and cross-sector collaboration.
How We Work
i4Geo brings together expertise across geography, environmental science, computer science, physics, biology, and related fields.
We are committed to inclusive and accessible pathways—from high school to postdoctoral training—while building partnerships with industry, government, and community organizations.
What We Do
i4Geo’s activities are built around six core areas:
- Research Programs – interdisciplinary geospatial and environmental research
- Training & Education – undergraduate, graduate, and non-degree learning opportunities
- Advanced Technologies – access to sensing, imaging, and data platforms
- Research & Training Spaces – labs, fieldwork, and collaborative environments
- Partnerships & Outreach – connections with industry, government, and community
- Innovation & Entrepreneurship – support for applied solutions and emerging ventures
Why It Matters
Geospatial technologies are transforming how we understand environmental change, manage natural resources, and make informed decisions.
i4Geo bridges research and real-world applications to turn data into meaningful impact.
