Peter & the Wolf Music Activity - Summer - 2023

Start by reading the story and placing the pieces on the board as you (child or parent) read. Then, try the activity again, adding music clips at the places in the story with the cues on your story sheet, ie. (PETER), etc.    Does this make the story MORE interesting to listen to?  Do the music clips represent the characters well?  Example: How does the flute sound like a bird?

You can also make up your own story and add music clips as each character enters the story!

You will already have these from your teacher, but you can re-print them here if you need to:

and

BIRD (played by the flute)

DUCK (played by the oboe)

CAT (played by the clarinet)

PETER (played by the strings [violin, viola, cello and double bass])

WOLF (played by three french horns)

GRANDPA (played by the bassoon)

GUNS (Hunters - the timpani and bass drum make the sounds of the rifle shots)

HUNTERS TAKING WOLF TO ZOO (this theme is played by the whole orchestra)

DID YOU KNOW?   Peter & the Wolf was written by a famous composer named Sergei Prokofiev (1891 - 1953).  He wrote Peter and the Wolf in just two weeks, in April of 1936 for a children's theatre in Moscow.  He invented the story and wrote the narration himself!  It is still performed all over the world today!
