Bottles and Cans

In September 2005, U of L expanded its beverage container recycling program by providing collection bins in every building.

The program is looked after by the Students’ Union which employs Quest Support Services to collect the empty bottles from the common area bins and store them in a central location for pick-up by Picture Butte Bottle Depot. Each year approximately 160,000 containers are collected.

All proceeds from the bottle collection are given to the SU for student scholarships.

Since implementing the new bottle recycle bins, revenue has increased from an average of $387 per month (about 7,740 cans) to $947 per month (18,940 cans).
