An instructor who has made it his quest to take the fear out of learning difficult concepts in chemistry, Wayne Lippa has been named the University of Lethbridge’s 2024 Board of Governors Teaching Chair.

In keeping with this year’s theme for National Nursing Week from May 6 to 12 — Changing Lives. Shaping Tomorrow. — the efforts of a group of local nurses continue to change lives and shape the future of registered nurses who want to pursue graduate studies at the University of Lethbridge.

Tadashi (Tad) Mitsui has devoted his life to enriching the lives of citizens and their communities locally, nationally and internationally through compassion, courage, empathy and activism, giving a voice to those unheard and hope to those in need.

The Faculty of Health Sciences at the University of Lethbridge has chosen former dean Dr. Chris Hosgood as this year’s recipient of the Friend of Health Sciences Award, an award he instituted during his time as dean. “We are so pleased to honour Chris with the Friend of Health Sciences Award,” says Dr. Jon Doan, dean of the Faculty of Health Sciences. “His hard work, dedication and leadership skills enabled the growth of Health Sciences and the development of unique programming. He has left a significant and invaluable legacy that deserves to be celebrated.”

The Southern Alberta Technology Council (SATC), which has organized the Lethbridge Regional Science Fair and Science Olympics (i.e., Sci-Fusion) since 2002, is pleased to announce that this year’s event is to be held as an in-person event, hosted on the University of Lethbridge campus, Apr. 26-27, 2024. The last in-person Science Fair on the University campus took place in 2019, and the group is looking forward to welcoming future scientists, engineers and so much more to the University to celebrate discovery.

A prominent Pincher Creek, Alberta family, along with physicians from a local clinic, have established a pair of University of Lethbridge awards that invest in the next generation of students and the health and well-being of their community. Image

The development of a new comprehensive strategic plan for the University of Lethbridge is underway and the University is asking the broader southern Alberta community to provide input and insight into this important project.

What began as a working group focused on effective teaching methods during the pandemic has become an innovative resource to building a more inclusive post-secondary environment — and it’s open to teachers in all sectors of education.

Eight University of Lethbridge research projects focused on water storage, carbon storage, insect health, fish habitat and the endangered sage grouse will go ahead thanks to a $500,000 grant from Alberta Environment and Protected Areas (AEPA).

It takes a special kind of person to balance coursework, studying, a part-time job and a healthy social life. It takes an exceptional person to recognize they have more to give and are willing to share their time raising the world around them and bettering their community.
