Advisory — Sexual Violence Awareness Week highlights education, conversations and growing a culture of consent
Sexual violence has no place in society and the University of Lethbridge’s Student Services Team is at the forefront of creating a campus culture that supports thriving, healthy relationships.
Leah Webster, ULethbridge’s sexual and gender-based violence prevention coordinator, says Sexual Violence Awareness Week, Feb. 24-28, is designed to open conversations and initiate an atmosphere of empathy and support.
“Sexual Violence Awareness Week provides an opportunity to educate our campus about the impacts of sexual violence, what resources are here on campus and to encourage conversations about growing a culture of consent,” says Webster. “It focuses on education, prevention and empowering survivors by amplifying their voices. Additionally, this week aims to challenge harmful myths and misconceptions surrounding sexual violence. By engaging students in conversations about consent, healthy relationships, empathy, active listening and mutual support, we create an environment where harmful and problematic behaviors are less likely to thrive.”
Each day features a different activity supporting the themes of the week. Please see the following schedule of events for Sexual Violence Awareness Week:
