With the threat of drought hanging over the province, the Government of Alberta enlisted a University of Lethbridge research team to assist with accurately measuring the snowpack in southern Alberta and the variations from one watershed to another — measurements that are more important than ever as the province tries to manage its water resources.

University of Lethbridge Board Chair Emeritus Kurt Schlachter KC (BSc ’00) helped guide the University through an important period of growth and transition while remaining dedicated to his professional law practice and volunteer and philanthropic activities. Recognizing his dedication to community building, the University will award Schlachter with an honorary degree at Spring 2024 Convocation.

Two exciting projects have received support from a provincial grant program that provides a two-year runway for entrepreneurs to develop and commercialize innovative, science-based products and services.

Dr. Nahum Sonenberg, the world’s leading researcher in the field of protein synthesis and translational control, will be recognized with an honorary degree by the University of Lethbridge at its Spring 2024 Convocation later this month.

The next step in expanding health-care capacity in southern Alberta was formalized today with the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) between the University of Lethbridge and University of Calgary.

The University of Lethbridge will help meet the demand for well-trained professionals in data science thanks to a $1.65-million grant over six years from the Natural Sciences and Engineering Research Council’s (NSERC) Collaborative Research and Training Experience (CREATE) program.
