Presentation title: Industrial gloves negatively affect precision more than strength
Abstract: In the workplace, there are several hazards (biological, chemical, and physical). However, some of these hazards are unavoidable, therefore personal protective equipment (PPE) is needed to minimize the associated risks. Gloves are some of the most prescribed PPE in the workplace. In this study, we examined how steel-mesh gloves impact dexterity, fine motor skills, and grasping patterns. The aim of the research project was to quantify performance loss due to gloves and classify grasping techniques. We tested the participants using the Purdue pegboard test and a dynamometer to evaluate grip strength, fine and gross motor skills, and the effectiveness of gloves.
