Title: Development of Wound Bandage Prototype from Oat Husk and Agricultural Waste
Abstract: Every year in Alberta, farms produce tens of thousands of tonnes of oat waste, while hospitals discard millions of plastic bandages that both contribute to the pollution of the environment and climate change. To solve these issues, we have created a new bandage built off of leftover oat husks from farms, and we call this "Oat Shield". Unlike traditional bandages which are made of plastic, our oat bandages can naturally decompose into the soil after its use. To improve our product's effectiveness, we added "good germs" that can make a natural medicine that spontaneously kills the "bad germs" and heals your skin faster than a regular bandage. Oat Shield is a sustainable and environment-based solution to combat both agricultural and bandage waste.
