Success Story: Dr. Erin Spring
The Institute for Child and Youth Studies (I-CYS) sends out congratulations to our 2014-2017 postdoctoral fellow, Dr. Erin Spring. Dr. Spring, whose fellowship was co-supervised by Drs. Kristine Alexander and Jan Newberry, was both the University of Lethbridge’s first postdoctoral fellow in the humanities and the first postdoc sponsored by I-CYS and Alexander’s Canada Research Chair in Child and Youth Studies, with additional support from the School of Graduate and Postdoctoral Studies and the Faculty of Arts and Science.
Drawing on a range of methodological approaches, including reading discussion groups, photo-elicitation, and map-making, Dr. Spring’s award-winning interdisciplinary scholarship seeks to understand the ways in which young people make sense of their identities through reading, writing, and art. In her postdoctoral research at I-CYS, Erin Spring worked with young Blackfoot readers on the Kainai Blood Reserve to pursue her ongoing goal of facilitating social change, building capacity, and promoting student wellbeing.
Dr. Spring has completed a successful tenure at the U of L. As of July 1, 2017, she has started a position as Assistant Professor of Education in Language and Literacy (Youth Development) at the University of Calgary Werklund School of Education. Congratulations, Dr. Spring!
