Condolence Notice — Dr. Ernest Mardon

The University of Lethbridge extends its sincere condolences to the family and friends of Dr. Ernest Mardon, who passed away in Lethbridge on Sunday, March 6 at the age of 87.

Mardon was a U of L founding faculty member, having started his work as an assistant professor in English in 1969. He was promoted to associate professor in 1972 and retired in 1990.

Condolence Notice — Chloe Galts

The University of Lethbridge extends its sincere condolences to the family and friends of Chloe Galts, who passed away on Thursday, Feb. 18 at the age of 73.

Chloe and her husband, Marvin, were chosen as this year’s honourees of the Management Scholarship Dinner, scheduled for Thursday, April 14. As southern Alberta entrepreneurs, the Galts demonstrated the kind of partnership that allowed them to excel at business and life and the University will honour their legacy with the establishment of a scholarship fund in their names.

Condolence Notice — Bill Sharp

The University of Lethbridge extends its sincere condolences to the family and friends of Bill Sharp, one of the U of L’s founding faculty members, who passed away on Friday, Feb. 12 at 78 years of age.

Sharp, who was born on the family farm at Bashaw, Alberta, had a passion for the great outdoors. He enjoyed hiking around southern Alberta and undertook projects to identify the songbirds and flowering plants of the area. Sharp was one of the founding members of the Lethbridge Naturalists’ Society.

Condolence Notice — Scott Shillington

The University of Lethbridge extends its sincere condolences to the family and friends of Scott Shillington, who passed away on Feb. 3 at the age of 45.

Shillington, who died as a result of complications from surgery, worked as a cook at the U of L Students’ Union Zoo pub for the past three years. Cheri Pokarney, SU manager, described Shillington as a hard worker with a gentle and kind disposition.

“He was well liked by his peers and he will definitely be missed by the entire SU staff,” says Pokarney.

Condolence Notice — Dr. Frank Schaffer

The University of Lethbridge expresses its sincere condolences to the family and friends of Dr. Frank Schaffer, who passed away on Monday, January 25 at the age of 80 after a long battle with prostate cancer.
