Kinesiology Performance Lab

The University of Lethbridge Kinesiology Performance Laboratory offers access to advanced equipment and evidence-based testing in kinesiology, health, and wellness—empowering students, researchers, and the public to achieve peak performance, enhance well-being, and drive discoveries that enhance human potential.

Our Vision

  • Community-Centric: To inspire a culture of wellness in the City of Lethbridge by allowing access to elite fitness testing and specialized tools, transforming the University of Lethbridge into a hub for inclusive health education and performance excellence that benefits all southern Albertans. 

  • Research-Focused: To pioneer integrative approaches in human performance science, leveraging advanced technologies like metabolic (VO2 max) and body composition testing to fuel interdisciplinary research that advances the boundaries of physical capability and preventive medicine. 

  • Innovation-Driven: To become a leader in kinesiology research and performance optimization, where discoveries in metabolic fitness and body composition propel athletes, academics, and communities toward healthier, more resilient futures.

Services & Equipment

 

  • Metabolic Fitness Testing

  1. We provide metabolic fitness testing assessment including resting metabolic levels, anaerobic fitness tests like the Wingate, and Aerobic protocols like the VO2 max.   

  • Body Composition & Bone Health

  1. We offer dual-energy X-ray absorptiometry (DXA) scanning with the GE Lunar Prodigy scanner to measure body fat, lean mass, and bone mineral density. DXA scanners are the gold standard equipment for measuring body composition in academia.  

  • Specialized Equipment

  1. We offer a PARVO metabolic cart for precise gas exchange analysis during exercise; plus, additional tools for biomechanical and physiological monitoring. This equipment is the gold standard for physiological fitness testing in athletics and research settings.  

  • Accessibility

  1. Our performance lab is open everyone including:

  2. university researchers for collaborative projects

  3. fee-based public services including team testing for local sports clubs

  4. personalized fitness consultations

  5. opportunities for students to volunteer and develop essential hands-on skills
