Day 17 November 1, 2006 Serengeti to Lake Manyara National Park
The name "Serengeti" derives from a Masai word meaning "Land-without-end." After backtracking across the Serengeti we again climbed in fog to the rim of the Ngorongoro crater where we were greeted by the sun as we stopped at the viewpoint. Later we enjoyed a leisurely lunch and tour at Gibb's Farm. Founded during German colonial times and still privately owned, Gibb's Farm is now a small hotel perched on the outer slopes of the Ngorongoro Highlands, surrounded by coffee plantations with long views over lush and beautiful agricultural country. . |

Then, down the road we stopped at the Shirt Shack where we were able to load up on Tanzanian souvenir shirts at reasonable prices without having to bargain. Eventually, we arrived at the Lake Manyara Serena Lodge. It was a beautiful place blending into the surroundings as usual although when some of our group found a mouse living under their bed we decided to do a little investigation on our own. Fortunately, we didn't seem to have any of the little guys.
