Red-billed Hornbill

— most commonly seen of the hornbills.

— becomes quite tame around human habitation

— one of the characteristic birds of dry thorn-bush

— often around herds of buffalo, eating the numerous parasitic insects

Silvery-cheeked Hornbill (young)

— noisy and bold

— often found in pairs, or flocks

— gullet full of fruit is brought to nest - regurgitated one at a time

Silvery-cheeked Hornbill (with casque)

— a large creamy casque tops the male’s brown bill (females smaller)

— casque probably used in recognition of others and for amplifying calls

— the casque may also be used in fighting, or to knock down fruit
