The morning flood watch. Quite a change from last night. Will we even get out of Samburu?
Day 8 October 23, 2006 Samburu National Reserve to Lake Nakuru National Park
Hey, we're not going to let a little water stop us. We made it to the gate and back through Isiolo with its large Mosque. (But we did have to travel down the don't use this road with it's placed rock barrier.) The town has a large Somali population after ex-Somali soldiers were resettled here after the First World War. We needed our break but it was soon time to push on. And push is the right word. On second thought maybe we shouldn't have taken that shortcut. . |

The locals were quite willing to help out ( For a price, of course)
It's always a treat when you hit a good road again. Our next stop would be Thompson Falls (a pretty little tourist stop or should I say trap) where we learned the hazards of bargaining. As soon as you stop a person latches on to you to get you into their shop. Once they have suckered you into buying they offer to wrap it for free. The wrapping will take you into the next shop with a whole new collection of goodies to entice you. Help just leave me alone!
East Africans can carry an amazing amount of stuff on their head but just as impressive is what they carry on their bicycles. Why there are not more accidents amazes me although on this final stretch to the gate we came across a bus that left the road. . |

Finally, you got here.
We thought you'd never make it |

Lake Nakuru offered a whole new wildlife experience. An eventful day was topped off with a stay at the Lion Hill Lodge.
