Day 11 — October 26, 2006 — Masai Mara National Reserve to Nairobi

Leaving the Masai Mara we eventually came to hard-top but soon discovered there were so many pot holes it was preferable to drive in the ditches (sometimes changing sides). We got a kick out of the improved road sign. A break was much appreciated. Next,we had a chance to observe village life before heading high above the Rift Valley where we got a good view from the lookout.

The countryside began to look more green and prosperous but in contrast to the poor the wealthy appeared to be hanging out behind gates. Just outside the capital, we visited the Karen Blixen Museum. Baroness Karen Blixen-Finecke emigrated from Denmark to Kenya in 1918 and, in 1937, wrote under the pseudonym, Isaac Dineson, "Out of Africa." The novel tells the tale of the Baroness's experiences on a Kenya farm. Her home is now a museum, restored to the style in which she maintained it.

Following our look at the garden we stopped for lunch (a carrot in a cucumber now that's different) located (surprise, surprise) as part of a souvenir shop. Then after lunch we reached today's destination, Nairobi, and got ready for our meat tasting meal at the Carnivore Restaurant. For the record — Ostrich was great, camel was blah.
