U of L research group one of 11 from across the country that participated in project
The results from a large national research project led by the Healthy Active Living and Obesity Research Group (HALO) at the CHEO Research Institute shows that about two-thirds of Canadian children haven’t achieved an acceptable level of physical literacy.

In a first for the University of Lethbridge, Dr. Stacey Wetmore has been awarded a Chemical Institute of Canada (CIC) Fellowship, the highest accolade that can be bestowed upon a CIC member.
“It’s a huge honour; I’m still in shock,” says Wetmore, a faculty member in the Department of Chemistry & Biochemistry with expertise in computational chemistry. “I really wasn’t expecting to be awarded with that at this point in my career. Normally, it’s something that people receive in the later parts of their careers because it’s really a career-distinction type of award.”

The University of Lethbridge, in collaboration with Western Economic Diversification Canada (WD) and Flexahopper Plastics, is taking a leading role in combatting environmental pollution through the establishment of a Green Polymer and Technology Centre.
The centre’s goal of developing biodegradable plastics that don’t use fossil fuel feedstocks or require fossil fuels to process is still years away, but the research can begin now thanks to a $1-million investment from WD.

For more than 50 years, Indigenous culture has been woven into the fabric of the University of Lethbridge, enriching programming, teaching and research, and creating an environment where students find community, support and success. Today, the University’s School of Liberal Education is proud to celebrate this heritage by accepting the Blackfoot image of the turtle as an official symbol.
In Blackfoot culture, turtles are considered to be a symbol of creation and motherhood, and embody a similar idea as that conveyed by the term “Mother Earth” in English.
