Community members invited to participate in national conversation The University of Lethbridge has joined the University of Toronto and Canadian universities and colleges across the country to facilitate a national conversation to develop concrete actions for change in higher education and in our communities. The National Dialogues are a series of national forums focused on addressing equity and inclusion in Canadian post-secondary education.

Communities respond to disasters, and perhaps disasters build communities. Disasters happen everywhere, and their meanings and perspectives vary. Could we then escape from disasters? What are the associative acts responsible for disasters? And, are these acts fully accounted for in our understanding of disasters?

Transitioning from an academic experience to a professional career is streamlined for University of Lethbridge students who take advantage of work-integrated learning (WIL), experiential learning and career services opportunities. The U of L’s new hub for these activities, Career Bridge: Centre for Work-Integrated Learning and Career Development, is now open.

Studying the impacts of chemical pollutants on fish reproduction in the field is a complicated business. Because complex environmental cues, such as changes in temperature, salinity and food availability, are all linked to reproduction, scientists at the University of Lethbridge are working on developing an easier way of monitoring fish species.

U of L students win award with secure platform for digital political engagement

The start of the fall semester would not be complete without the annual Fresh Fest extravaganza to properly welcome students to campus culture. But how can you create culture in the virtual and socially distanced world of COVID-19? The University of Lethbridge Students’ Union (ULSU) knows how. The ULSU’s Fresh Fest 2020 takes place this week and features a number of outstanding events thanks to the efforts of the organizing group who helped put the virtual festival together.

The way in which the University of Lethbridge will deliver its courses may be new, but as the Fall 2020 Semester begins this week, students can expect the same high-quality learning experience from one of Canada’s top-rated universities. When classes open on Wednesday, Sept. 9, the majority of course delivery will be via an online format. Anticipating this would be the case, the University made the decision in late May to commit to providing the most complete online experience as possible to students and used the summer months to prepare.

Finding new chemotherapy drugs is a painstaking process that often takes years, including plenty of hours in the lab, as Flávia Marszaukowski can attest. Marszaukowski, a PhD student at Brazil’s Universidade Estadual de Ponta Grossa (UEPG), has been working in Dr. René Boeré’s lab in the Department of Chemistry & Biochemistry at the University of Lethbridge since March of 2019, thanks to a memorandum of understanding (MOU) between the two universities.

The University of Lethbridge is welcoming over 1,990 new students into the fold this fall, and the themes of welcoming, informing and lessening anxiety remain the same — even if the experience has moved online.
