Dr. Stephanie King, a post-doctoral fellow at the University of Lethbridge, has long been interested in the effects of stress on the developing fetus and how those effects show up in subsequent generations. While a PhD student at Washington State University, King was involved in a study that looked into whether glyphosate, the primary ingredient in the herbicide Roundup, increased susceptibility to disease across several generations.

Dr. Jennifer Otto, a professor in the Department of Religious Studies at the University of Lethbridge, will go back 500 years to delve into the events that eventually led to modern-day human rights, thanks to a grant from the Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council (SSHRC). The free church movement had its origins during the Radical Reformation, which began in the 1520s. Groups such as Mennonites, Hutterites and free evangelical or Baptist congregations believed the church should be separate from state institutions.

Being a master of science student in Dr. Trushar Patel’s (Chemistry & Biochemistry) lab at the University of Lethbridge put Sergeant Michael D’Souza in the perfect position to create a new collaboration between the University and the Canadian Armed Forces. D’Souza is a member of the Primary Reserves and part of South Alberta Light Horse (SALH), an armoured reconnaissance regiment tasked with the detection, identification and management of biochemical and nuclear weapon threats in conjunction with regular forces.

The COVID-19 pandemic has illustrated the importance of professionals with expertise in epidemiology and biostatistics, public health policy and ethics, and public health program implementation and evaluation. Two new graduate certificates at the University of Lethbridge will provide students with just such credentials beginning in the fall of 2021.

EDMONTON: The Council of Post-Secondary Presidents of Alberta (COPPOA) has appointed a new executive team as part of a new structure the Council believes will further improve system level collaboration and enhance relationships with the Government of Alberta and other stakeholders.
