The University of Lethbridge recently completed a $911,000 renovation of the Community Sports Stadium by replacing the 12-year-old turf with new FieldTurf. The new surface enhances the playability of the stadium, bringing it in line with Canadian Football League and National Football League stadiums across North America.

What if scientists could have predicted the path of COVID-19 infections and insured communities in those soon-to-be-affected areas had enough resources, such as personal protective equipment (PPE) and ventilators, to help stop further spread?
That’s the question a team of four ULethbridge graduate students from the Canadian Centre for Behavioural Neuroscience (CCBN) asked themselves as part of STEM Fellowship’s Inter-University Big Data Challenge 2022, a global competition that saw them take first place in the Research Solutions category.

Around the world, people use wetlands to help treat wastewater. University of Lethbridge researchers will look to better understand how these complex systems work by studying the Frank Lake wetland and its watershed near High River, Alberta.
With base funding from Cargill Limited and matching funds from the Natural Sciences and Engineering Research Council (NSERC) of Canada Alliance program totalling approximately $1.5 million, the research team will embark on a five-year project.

Researchers in the University of Lethbridge’s Southern Alberta Genome Science Centre (SAGSC) and its bioinformatics core are collaborating with scientists at Agriculture and Agri-Food Canada (AAFC) to find viable solutions to mitigate Bovine Respiratory Disease (BRD) — the most prominent feedlot cattle disease in North America — that is responsible for an estimated financial burden of $3 billion annually.

Marking a stellar career as a researcher and professor, Dr. Robert Sutherland has been named winner of the 2022 Donald O. Hebb Distinguished Contribution Award by the Canadian Society for Brain, Behaviour & Cognitive Science (CSBBCS).
The award recognizes those who’ve made a significant contribution to the study of brain, behaviour and cognitive science through their research, training of others and leadership in the field. Donald Hebb is often called the father of neuroscience for the way he merged psychology with neuroscience.
