The University of Lethbridge Alumni Association (ULAA) is excited to recognize two distinguished alumni with its major awards for 2022, naming Dr. Dennis Sumara (BA/BEd ’80, MEd ’90) as winner of the Distinguished Alumni Award and Felipe Civita Ferreira (BMgt ’14) as recipient of the Young Alumni Award.

Dr. Laura Keffer-Wilkes (MSc ’12, PhD ’16) an instructor in the Department of Chemistry & Biochemistry, has been selected as the 2022-2023 Equity, Diversity and Inclusion (EDI) Scholar.
“We are pleased to announce that Laura will be the University’s EDI scholar for this year,” says Martha Mathurin-Moe, executive director of equity, diversity and inclusion. “Her project is broad based and not only seeks to remove barriers that women in STEM (science, technology, engineering and mathematics) face, but also encourage younger women to consider STEM careers.”

On September 30, the University of Lethbridge (Iniskim) will recognize the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation. The day honours the children who never returned home and survivors of residential schools, as well as their families and communities. Public commemoration of the tragic and painful history and ongoing impacts of residential schools is a vital component of the reconciliation process.
The week of September 26-30 is Truth and Reconciliation Week at ULethbridge and the University has a number of activities planned for members of the University community.
