What began as conversations between a University of Lethbridge graduate student and Blackfoot elders more than a decade ago came full circle Wednesday when the University became the first post-secondary institution to sign on as a supporter of the historic Buffalo Treaty.

The University of Lethbridge is inviting the public to learn more about the brain and the world-renowned research being done at the Canadian Centre for Behavioural Neuroscience (CCBN) in advance of Brain Awareness Week from March 13 to 19.
“The CCBN is a world-class research facility and we encourage members of the public to visit us and learn about the incredible activities taking place right here in southern Alberta,” says Dr. Artur Luczak, a neuroscience professor, and a Brain Awareness Week speaker.

On September 24, 2014, the first Buffalo Treaty was signed on the Blackfeet Reservation near Browning, Montana. It was signed by eight First Nations – four American and four Canadian. Since 2014, nearly 50 First Nations have signed the Buffalo Treaty along with hundreds of individuals and organizations —all in agreement to work toward the educational and environmental objectives of the treaty.
