With the new academic year now in full swing, the University of Lethbridge is pleased to welcome all new and returning students — all 8,724 of them — to its Lethbridge and Calgary campuses. Overall enrolment increased by 1.1 per cent from the previous fall and represents a record number of students studying at the U of L. “We’re up 96 students from last year and that’s where we hoped to be,” says Kathleen Massey, associate vice-president (students). “There’s balanced growth at both the undergraduate and doctoral levels and that’s a healthy thing for a research university.”

Seeking to preserve the Blackfoot cultural legacies of four influential men while furthering educational opportunities for Blackfoot students, Dr. Robert and Mrs. Priscilla Janes and the University of Lethbridge have created a series of new student awards for Blackfoot students.

Southern Alberta’s biggest outdoor music event of the summer is just days away as the University celebrates its 50th anniversary with the Shine On Summer Music Festival. Saturday’s event, from 12:30 to 11 p.m. at the U of L Community Stadium, features award-winning artists Dallas Smith, Corb Lund, Mother Mother, Virginia to Vegas, The Washboard Union, Trevor Panczak, Double Jack and DJ Millz Skillz.

The southern Alberta community is invited to join in the University of Lethbridge’s 50th anniversary celebrations by attending the free Community Fair on Sunday, Sept. 2 at the U of L Community Stadium. Part of the Shine On Summer Festival and Homecoming Weekend, the Community Fair is a celebration of arts, culture and community.
