Advisory — Ahead of the Herd event helps incoming students prepare for post-secondary journey
Incoming University of Lethbridge students and their families will get a head start on preparing for the Fall 2026 Semester at Ahead of the Herd, a full day of activities designed to help with the transition to post-secondary life at ULethbridge.
“Ahead of the Herd is about helping students feel like they already belong before their first day of classes. Starting university is exciting, but it can also feel overwhelming, for both students and their families,” says Hannah Thomas, ULethbridge Orientation, Transition & Retention Coordinator. “This day is intentionally designed to reduce that uncertainty by helping students meet future classmates, explore campus, connect with faculty and support services, and start building the confidence and relationships that support student success.”
WHAT: Ahead of the Herd
WHEN: Saturday, June 6, 9:30 a.m. to 4 p.m.
WHERE: ULethbridge campus, originating at Science Commons Atrium
This year’s event is expected to bring approximately 500 to 600 students and family members to the Lethbridge campus. Students will start in the Science Commons Atrium with welcome activities before spending the day exploring campus, meeting future classmates, connecting with student mentors and taking part in games and activities.
Students will also have the chance to meet faculty members, advisors and student support teams through the Interactive Faculty & Student Services Booth Fair. Here, they can ask questions, learn more about their programs, discover campus resources and participate in activities for a chance to win prizes. Family members will also take part in specific programming designed to help them understand what their students will be experiencing.
“The day gives families an opportunity to better understand the transition to university and learn how they can support their student along the way,” adds Thomas. “We want students and their families to leave feeling informed, welcomed and connected to the ULethbridge community.”
Media are invited to attend at any point throughout the day. A full rundown of events is available on the AOTH web page, beginning with ice-breaker games at 9:30 a.m. in Science Commons Atrium and concluding with 3 p.m. housing tours.
