Advisory — University of Lethbridge campus event marks National Day of Remembrance and Action on Violence against Women
The University of Lethbridge campus is invited to participate in a special workshop and activity to mark the National Day of Remembrance and Action on Violence against Women.
WHAT: Workshop — Awareness to Action: Gender-Based Violence in the Digital Age
WHEN: Friday, Dec. 5, 2025, 11:30 a.m. to 2 p.m.
WHERE: Women’s Peace Memorial Garden, University Library (Level 10)
WHO: Leah Webster, Sexual and Gender-Based Violence Prevention Coordinator
Leah Webster invites the campus community to explore how technology both amplifies harm and offers new tools for safety, advocacy and solidarity. The session will allow attendees to reflect on the continuing impact of gendered violence and the University of Lethbridge’s ongoing institutional commitment to creating safer spaces for all.
The National Day of Remembrance and Action on Violence against Women (Dec. 6) recognizes the 14 innocent women who, in 1989, lost their lives for simply being in an educational space to pursue their passion and dream at the Polytechnique Montreal in Quebec.
“Gender-based violence is not just a historical moment but a present reality,” says Dr. Digvir Jayas, ULethbridge president and vice-chancellor. “We need to keep speaking out towards eliminating gender-based and sexual violence on our post-secondary campuses.”
Those attending the workshop are invited to remain after the presentation to participate in a plant pot painting activity.
** Leah Webster will be available to media in advance of her presentation at 11:10 a.m.**
